On Saturday 25th May, bright and early, Carol, Alison and the dedicated team of volunteers opened up their Annual Plant Sale all in aid of The Nightingale. Though advertised as starting at 10am, there were many keen green fingered buyers at the sale from much earlier hoping to get in before pickings became very slim. And pickings were very slim by 1am, such was the popularity of the sale this year. Some might even say a stampede of gardeners descended on Tenniswood Road (apologies to Carol’s neighbours).
We want to emphasis that this plant sale isn’t just a one day thing. Far from it! It takes Carol and a village of people to collect seedlings, pots, soil, start planting, watering all year round. Their work truly never stops. They’re absolutely fantastic.
We are delighted to say that their efforts this year (as usual) deserve an enormous amount of applause and commendations because they have raised over £3,000!
A big thank you to Clockhouse Nursery for donating a large trolley full of bedding plants, Andrew Ryde who purchased bedding plants and donated them to the sale, Thompsons of Crews Hill for donated 20 sacks of compost and Michael who donated hundreds of perennial cuttings that he takes and pots up from his own garden, his support in invaluable to us!
HOW DID THE PLANT SALE START 20 YEARS AGO?
