Art & Movement
Our Art & Movement group is designed to connect you to; your bodies, your inner experiences and to each other. It aims to nurture expression in a non-judgemental space where you can get curious about how you feel and what you need.
Each week clients explore a different technique (oil, pastel, watercolour, collage, acrylic) in the context of a particular theme. The session allows time to settle in, to explore a moving meditation and to create some art work. There is then the (optional) opportunity to share your work, reflections or insights with the group.
The purpose is not to make ‘beautiful art’ (although this is often a happy by product!) but rather to use the art-making process to explore sensations and emotions, to access flow states, to befriend the inner critic, to bring loving awareness to the body and build community through the collective act of making.
Art & Movement incorporates ‘bottom up’ (sensory led) as well as ‘top down’ (brain led) processing. We use creative practices to notice where you might be ‘stuck’ in your survival responses (like fight, flight, freeze or collapse) and then offer skills to help you move from protection back towards connection.
A wide range of practices are used during the 6 week course; breath work, gentle movement, sound, drawing with both hands, simply being still and many other types of ‘moving and making’ to foster a sense of play, choice, curiosity and self-compassion without ever losing sight of the experience of the body.
In a nutshell, you move, make, laugh, learn, relax, meet others and enjoy journeying through the creative process with others in similar situations to you.
